Back to Blogging

   Posted by: Jim   in Uncategorized

It’s been a long time since I posted anything on this site, let alone a good review of a book. I haven’t been lazy, at least not idol. Also, I have not put very much information about me on my site, so here is a small amount of catch up.

I am a middle school technology teacher. Among other things I teach wood working and love to be in the shop building things. I have a shop at home and took a lot of time this summer just being in the shop and making furniture. A lot of work and fun for me but did nothing for the blog.

I did not stop reading. In fact I probably read a bit more than usual, except the week I struggled through a book given to me by an aunt in law. So, now that I am back at school and working at the computer more consistently, I will be back to posting reviews on my site.

I hope you all had a good summer and are ready for some short days and long evenings which lend themselves well to sitting down and enjoying a good book.

Did I mention wine? A good book and a class of wine? I guess I’ll save that idea for another post.

“Dog blood” by David Moody

Posted by: Jim   in Action Books, SciFi

Single minded hate is the theme of this series. Just as it is difficult to understand unthinking, unreasoning hate in our society it becomes difficult to understand the reasoning of the “haters”. Because of some unspecified event “haters” have become single minded in destroying anyone who isn’t like them.

I like three things about this book. One, we see most of the action and events through the eyes of a “hater”, somewhat like seeing “Dawn of the Dead” through the eyes of a Zombie. Second, the action is fast and the pace of the book quick. Third, Mr., Moody has something to say about hate. He shows us one possible result of what could happen if hate is allowed to run unchecked.

He is particularly pessimistic about our ability to cope with the escalating damage caused by hate and the depth of violence we would choose to use in the face of enough sustained damage.

I hope he’s wrong but fear he might be right.
