“One Shot” by Lee Child

I love it when an author, especially one that I like anyway, digs a hole for himself too deep to climb out of. The evidence against the ex soldier in trouble, in this Jack Reacher story has such breath and depth it would have Rumpole pleading guilty. In a nice twist, Jack hates the accused and wants to see him hang.

After this excellent beginning Mr. Child keeps up the pace with action, suspense and plotting. His characters are so well defined that he kept me guessing until the end about who really “done it”. In the middle of the book I was a little surprised by the strange mix of bedfellows making up Jack’s opposition. They range from the local and inept to foreign and professional. But, the ending leaves no loose ends or unanswered questions. Excellent!

Jack Reacher is my favorite tough guy working today next to Sean Dillion. As usual Mr. Child delivers a fast pace story that is hard to put down.
