“Lost In A Good Book” by Jasper Fforde

Thusday Next has angered the wrong people.  The Goliath Corporation can see a great deal of porfit from her ability to jump into and out of books. They don’t care that she used a prose portal  that no longer exists. They’re going to do what ever it takes, change her past and present, to make her do they’re literary skullduggery.

In this second “Thursday Next” Story, her world is more complex, the literary refrences faster and the challenges greater. She has to learn to jump into and out of books at will, save her own past, divert the end of the world, and face a menisis she can’t even remember. There’s more action, more charaters, real and fictional (not a whole lot of difference here), more problems then the first book. Its nice to have a series where one book is better than the last.

One word of caution. Mr. Fforde knows this is the first of several books and many of the plot problems are not tidied up. If you are the kind of person that needs to know what happened, and can’t wait for the next chapter, youbetter have the next book on hand. Really not a bad situation at all for readers like us.

MacKayla Lane went to Dublin to find her sister’s killer.  What she found was a land full of scary creatures, she isn’t who she thinks she is, neither was her sister, and she didn’t find her sister’s killer.    While on this hunt for the killer, Mac found out she holds the power to see the Fae and other “fairy tale” type people that are not fairy tale at all.  They’re trying to take over the world.  Some of them are good some of them are evil and one of them killed her sister Alina.

Mac now has three goals in Dublin: One: stay alive, Two: save the world, Three: find Alina’s killer.  Everyday the order of importance changes.  She does have two people helping her with this. V’lane who is a Seelie prince and Barrons who she has no idea what he is.  If only she could figure out if they are good guys or bad and exactly why they are helping her.  She’s sure there is something in it for them but right now she needs all the help she can get.
