The British have come to Massachusetts and started to build fort George. We’ll! This just won’t do and the patriots of Massachusetts set out to dislodge them from American soil. This is a story about professional British soldiers against the American militia, the minute men, the everyday farmer and laborer of the American Revolution.
But of course it is much more than that. Mr. Cornwell makes the people the story, their personalities, abilities, experience, attitudes and all that makes them human and how it affects lives and history. From the fishermen, to the admiral and from the soldier to the general we are treated to a personal look at the men and women who made up the foundations of our country. I was really surprised at Paul Revere.
To get all this in an action story that keeps you wanting to know what happens next makes it a real page turner. As with all Mr. Cornwell’s books I had to carry it around for a day until it was finished. Thank you Mr. Cornwell.
One again I have not been writing on my book blog for some time. Again it is not because I stopped reading but other time constraints and because of more reading. For Christmas I received a Kindle and oldies and goodies are free!! I had to grab up the “Invisible Man”, the “Underground City”, “The people of the mist” and others. More of which you will be hearing about later. I’m reading about the muslin problems in the 16th century, (we think we have it bad!) which I will write about soon. But to get back in the writing habit again I will tell you about my favorite author right now, Bernard Cornwell.
